Kware Serial Killer Arrested and Confesses to Murders, but is He?

Police have arrested a man they believe is the primary suspect in the gruesome killings and disposal of bodies at Kware dumpsite in Embakasi, Nairobi.

On Monday, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Chief Mohammed Amin stated that the suspect, Collins Jumaisi Khalusa, had confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife "Imelda," between 2022 and July 11, 2024.

He lives approximately 500 meters from the Kware dumpsite, where the badly mutilated bodies of women have been recovered during an operation.

“We are dealing with a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” Mr. Amin stated to the media at DCI headquarters.

Police described the developments as a breakthrough in the investigation that had threatened the government amid allegations of extrajudicial killings.

A mobile phone belonging to one of the identified victims, Josephine Owino, was recovered from the suspect in custody.

So far, two women, including Josephine, have been identified.

Josephine went missing on June 26, while the second victim disappeared on June 28.

Josephine's sister reported receiving a call from a man claiming to be with the victim. Josephine did not return home, and her body was later found stuffed in a sack at the dumpsite.

The process of identifying the other victims is ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, July 15, at the City Mortuary, as teams continue searching for the decapitated bodies at the dumpsite.

Jumaisi was arrested in a 1am raid on Monday in Kayole after detectives tracked his mobile signal.

“It is the transaction of mobile money transfer using Josephine Owino's (one of the victims) phone number that led detectives to tracking the suspect,” said Mr. Amin.

Just before his arrest, police say Jumaisi was actively luring his next potential victim, a woman named Susan, and detectives have invited her to record a statement.

Officers involved in the raid said the suspect lives about 500 meters from Kware dumpsite, an abandoned quarry where at least eight women's bodies had been retrieved by Sunday evening.

Detectives reported that Jumaisi led them to the dumpsite after confessing to the killings that shocked the nation.

During the Monday media briefing, the DCI chief displayed several items seized during the raid on the suspect's house.

The items included a machete believed to have been used to dismember victims, mobile phones, identity cards, SIM cards, gloves, empty sacks similar to those found with bodies at the dumpsite, and ropes.
