The World Mourns Nollywood Star John Okafor - Mr Ibu.

Nigerians are feeling sad as they mourn the loss of beloved Nollywood actor John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, who passed away at 62 years old.

Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, shared the news on Saturday, expressing deep sadness over Mr Ibu's passing. He mentioned that the actor suffered from a heart problem.

Mr Ibu gained fame twenty years ago with his role in the movie "Mr Ibu," which became his nickname throughout his career. His funny performance in the film is still remembered as one of the best in Nigerian comedy.

Over his career, he acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies, including "Keziah," "9 Wives," and several sequels to "Mr Ibu."

Actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie and former UN rapporteur Joy Ezeilo paid tribute to him, remembering him as a cherished figure who brought laughter to many families.

Nigeria's Culture Minister, Hannatu Musawa, described him as a household name that brought smiles to families across the country.

Mr Ibu passed away in a hospital in Lagos state, according to local reports. Last year, he faced health problems, and his leg was amputated in November. His family faced controversy after his passing, with his son and adopted daughter arrested on suspicion of stealing money from him.

  2. He was a well-known Nigerian actor and comedian, loved for his humorous performances.
  3. Mr Ibu rose to fame in 2004 with the movie "Mr Ibu," where he starred alongside another popular actor, Osita Iheme.
  4. Throughout his career, he appeared in over 200 Nollywood films, including "Mr. Ibu and His Son," "Coffin Producers," "Husband Suppliers," and "International Players."
  5. In October 2020, he ventured into music, releasing two singles titled "This Girl" and "Do You Know."
  6. Mr Ibu openly expressed his disapproval of homosexuality in Nollywood, calling for it to end, comparing it to a virus.
  7. He graduated from the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu State.
  8. Sadly, Mr Ibu passed away at the age of 62.
  9. In October 2023, he fell ill and sought financial support from Nigerians to cover his medical expenses.
  10. In November 2023, one of his legs was amputated in a bid to save his life.
  11. On March 2, 2024, Mr Ibu tragically passed away due to cardiac arrest, marking the end of his remarkable life and career.

Despite the challenges in his last years, Mr Ibu's legacy as a talented actor and a beloved personality lives on. He is survived by his 13 children, as reported by local media.
