The world is grieving the loss of Kelvin Kiptum, a famous marathon runner who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. Kelvin, along with his coach Gervais Hakizimana, were in a car accident in Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet County, and sadly, they didn't survive. Their car was badly damaged.
Kelvin was only 24 years old, but he had already achieved so much in his running career. He recently broke the world record for the fastest marathon time ever, finishing a race in Chicago in an incredible 2 hours and 35 seconds. He made history by being the first person to run a marathon in less than two hours and one minute.
People from all over, including other athletes and leaders, are sharing their sadness on social media. Sebastian Coe, the president of World Athletics, said Kelvin was an amazing athlete and his legacy will live on. David Rudisha, a world record holder in the 800m race, expressed his condolences too, saying Kelvin's passing is a big loss for Kenya.
Even leaders like Musalia Mudavadi and Raila Odinga are paying tribute to Kelvin. They say he was not only a great athlete but also a mentor to others. They're sending their thoughts and prayers to Kelvin's family and friends during this difficult time.
Kelvin Kiptum may be gone, but he'll always be remembered as a legend in the world of running.
