Monicah Kimani murder: DPP Renson Ingonga to appeal Jacque Maribe's acquittal

The Director of Public Prosecution, Renson Ingonga, is not happy with the court's decision in Jacque Maribe's case. Maribe, a former TV presenter, was accused of being involved in the murder of Monicah Kimani in 2018 along with her ex-boyfriend Joseph Irungu.

While the court found Irungu guilty of the murder, Maribe was let go because there wasn't enough proof connecting her to the crime. The judge said there were clues pointing to Irungu's involvement, but Maribe couldn't be convicted of lying to the police because she wasn't charged with that.

“The office of the DPP knows their mandate. The resolve is that the prosecution did not adduce adequate evidence for this court to find the second accused person of the offence of murder of Monica Nyawira Kimani on the night of 19th September 2018. The first accused person is convicted on the charge (murder) while the second accused person is acquitted of the charge,” concluded the judge.

The DPP is saying they want to challenge this decision. They are appealing against the part of the judgment that let Maribe off the hook. They filed a notice of appeal to make it official.

"Take notice that the Republic, the intended appellant herein, being dissatisfied with the decision of the high court of Kenya at Nairobi (Hon G. Nzioka) delivered in Nairobi on the 9th of February,2024, appeals against part of the judgement acquitting the second accused person," the notice by the DPP's office reads.
