Porkies Club Owner, 5 Employees Convicted in Murder of Ex-Juja MP George Thuo

Six individuals accused of the 2013 murder of former Juja Member of Parliament George Thuo have been found guilty.

On Friday, Paul Wainaina Boiyo, the owner of Porkies club, along with his five employees, was found guilty in the murder case. Boiyo alongside his employees Christopher Lumbasio Andika, Andrew Karanja Wainaina, Samuel Kuria Ngugi, Esther Ndinda Mulinge, and Ruth Vanessa Irungu will now need to present mitigating factors before the court for consideration before sentencing.

Paul Wainaina Boiyo, Christopher Lumbasio Andika, Andrew Karanja Wainaina, Samuel Kuria Ngugi, Esther Ndinda Mulinge, and Ruth Vanessa Irungu in court on April 19, 2024.

Justice Roselyn Korir reached this verdict after determining that the prosecution had demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt their connection to Thuo's death. According to her, all six individuals were aware of Thuo's poisoning. Justice Korir noted that Boiyo had conversed with Thuo over the phone on November 19, 2013, before Thuo headed to the club to watch the Formula One Game.

"The two accused persons Boiyo and Lumbasio had prior knowledge that Thuo was to go to the club. The had sufficient notice to plan for any good or bad plan," read the ruling.

Additionally, the court revoked their bail as they were all released on cash bail.

The court observed that the MP passed away after consuming a poisoned drink at Porkies club in Thika.

According to the court, the prosecution successfully demonstrated that traces of pesticide were discovered in Thuo's body, thereby refuting claims that he was poisoned elsewhere.

The judge remarked that Boiyo's employees sat with him to ensure that everything proceeded according to plan without any mishaps. According to the evidence before the court, the first, second, third, and fourth accused individuals were seated with the MP on the relevant date, and no evidence was presented to demonstrate that they departed from the table.

The judge stated that the four individuals had the chance to interfere with the drink.

Furthermore, the court rejected the arguments made by the sixth person, who claimed that she purchased a drink for the MP as a gesture of friendship.

Vanessa Irungu informed the court that she visited Porkies to exchange Ksh.1,000, encountered the MP, embraced him, and subsequently bought him a drink.

However, the court questioned her intentions and pondered whether the embrace was a deceitful gesture, likening it to the proverb "kikulacho kinguoni mwako."

"Was the hug of the sixth person the Judas kiss... evidence showed that she was a regular customer, and she would be given the change even without buying a drink for the MP," said Justice Korir.

Boiyo owns Club Porkies in Thika, where the MP was reportedly poisoned, while Lumbasio was an acquaintance of the late Thuo.

Ndinda is the waitress accused of serving Thuo, while Vanessa is the female patron who purportedly bought Thuo a beer before his demise.
