Bring it on! Orengo Dares EACC Chief Following Arrest Warning

Siaya Governor James Orengo has responded to Twalib Mbarak, the head of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, who implied that Orengo's county was being investigated for suspected corruption. Orengo in a strongly worded response to Mbarak termed his comment as, "reckless, irresponsible, unjustified and legally inexcusable."

Orengo replied to the CEO's comments made on Thursday evening, refuting any suggestions of political bias in the arrest of former National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.

Mbarak had defended the arrest of both the former CS and the current Marsabit Governor Ali Mohammud, citing ongoing investigations into whether Sh8.2 billion was misappropriated during Yatani's tenure as governor in the North Eastern county.

Yatani was apprehended but subsequently released on Wednesday.

Orengo, along with Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, represented him. The EACC CEO expressed concern about Orengo serving as the former CS's legal representative.

Mbarak stated, "Yesterday [Wednesday], the noise they made, one of the lawyers there [in the Yatani case] is a governor. We have even focused on his county, and we have raised a red flag. You can tell the lawyer-cum-governor that we may end up in his place very soon.”

Orengo did not passively accept the insinuation; instead, he rebuffed the remark as "empty and containing nothing new, except outrageous hyperbole, falsehood and callous sadism."

The governor highlighted that arrests had occurred in Siaya County as far back as six years ago "but no prosecutions were made."

Orengo affirmed his commitment to both his professional duties and governing the expansive county, emphasizing that he refuses to be cowered.
